Remember the fear of having to read in front of your English class at school. Here's a top tip for all you youngsters out there, if you want to avoid being picked on - it use to work for me - when the teacher is looking for someone else to read - look intently at the book as if your really into the story. Of all my school years I was only asked to read about 3 times -that was for Macbeth, the part - King Duncan - go figure eh? somethings you just can't fight.
Sorry it's just another sketch this week.

IF - Discovery

I got my love of music from my Dad - when I was very young he bought me my first Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dylan and Paul Simon LP's. He'd play his jazz albums at full volume when my Mum was out (still does) Basie, Ellington, Sinatra and Stan Kenton where my favourites. Then I discovered the NME and the John Peel Show, my brother and I would listen to the Peel radio at night on these big headphones taping our fave songs - Orange Juice, Josef K and Aztec Camera where mine - the Sound of Young Scotland.

This little fella is one dug up from the archives, it was a bank holiday here this week and I never got time do do anything fresh - how come you get less time to do things when there's a holiday involved??

Woke up with this idea this morning, I really should think about something else before going to sleep. This could be my brother and I when we were kids, obviously he was the one kicking the ball over - I had a terrific shot - ahem! - I hope he doesn't read this. This was inspired by my daughter who won't stop singing this over and over again - and it reminds me of the bit in Mary Poppins when they laugh and defy gravity and float to the ceiling. She really is that happy. And yes it's that tenious, of link again.

IF - 80s

This is an old one - actually done in the 80s - it was used for a change of address card when my brother and I moved out of our parent's house. Note the James Come Home t-shirt - it was all the rage once.

Here's a couple of other old drawings I dug out.

This one was used for my friends Sheila and Chris moving cards - there's a theme going on here isn't there. They were mad on VW Beetles - mad cars, I drove theirs once - you turned the wheel and 3 minutes later the car would respond, it was the only car I'd been in when you turned on the lights with your foot. How Herbie won all those races I don't know.

I went to Wigan Tech when I was a lad and everyone pronounced bus as buzz, another tenuous link.

Inventing the cord telephone with cans and string with my brother - circa 6 years old. And I just noticed I can't spell "HEAR" - D'oh.

Inspired by the first joke I remember my Dad telling me - it was a a book called "Bubbles in the Bath" by Ivor Winderbottom. I found it hilarious when I was kid - it still makes me smile now, my 6 year old daughter finds it just as funny too. And no, we don't lead shelterd lives.
