IF - Trail

CSI later, thought they'd found a trail to a murder - unless it was Miami in which case there'd be endless taking off and on of sunglasses and striking poses.

Gearing up for the World Cup

After his terrific exploits at the Winter Olympics, dog is now in training for the World Cup - where we will be cheering on En-grrrr-land (Oh my sides) particularly if Everton FC's Leighton Baines will be playing.

IF - Detective

Not so sure about this one now I see it in the light of day, drew it last night while having a glass or three of merlot waiting for my tea. It was drawn from one of my wife's dvd boxsets, I've never seen the appeal of the show myself - you know who's done the deed, he knows within minutes who's done it, and then it's nearly two hours of "just one more thing"s before he proves it. Give me Canon, Kojak, Rockford, Petrocelli, Ironside anybody but Columbo ... or Jessica blooming Fletcher.

The Stan and Ollie of the pig world.

IF - Dip

Sorry, never got time to finish this off for this week's topic. Based on my childhood - I used to be a member of the infamous Chucky Egg Gang when I was about 6 or 7 yrs old, we use to play swinging across the brook, amongst other things, just over the road from my mum's house. I once managed to fall in the brook 5 times in one day, my poor mum gave me a change of clothes each time I came back sopping wet.

Paul Haig Day II

Paul Haig Day II is the brain child of the Vinyl Villain who has a fantastic music blog that can be found here. This in his own words is why he did it last year:

On 6th April 2009, a fair few bloggers from all around the world agreed to be part of Paul Haig Day. This was in response to a plea that I had put out over the internet as a thank you to Paul and his manager for offering tremendous great support to TVV and other bloggers in the face of determined efforts by folk posting dmca notices forcing not just mp3s but entire postings to be taken down. Paul Haig Day was organised with just over a week's notice, and just over 30 bloggers responded with some words and a Paul Haig related track of their own.

Paul Haig was the lead singer in Josef K who were part of the legendary record label, Postcard Records (the Sound of Young Scotland), I loved everything that this label put out by - Orange Juice, Aztec Camera and the Go-Betweens. The label only lasted for a couple of years, but I've followed the musical careers of most of the individuals involved with them since - Edwyn Collins, Roddy Frame, James Kirk, Malcolm Ross and of course Paul Haig.

My song of choice for this post is from Cinematique, his 1991 album based around the concept of incidental music from imaginery films. I bought this album from a second hand record shop (I'd been searching for it for ages), weirdly enough called Vinyl Villains in Edinburgh whilst on my honeymoon back in 1997. I also managed to buy Josef K's Radio Drill Time from a Sunday market in Grassmarket and get a round of golf in at Kilspindie G.C. near Aberlady and yes we are still married, though I've never managed to repeat this fete again.

Somewhere inbetween - Paul Haig

This is a remix from the lead track from his last album Relive, which VV forwarded on from the man himself - enjoy.

Trip out the Rider Mix 2 - Paul Haig

And this was one of my favourite TV show themes from when I was a kid, The Persuaders given the PH treatment - way more classy than The Edge's Mission Impossible.

You can find more information about Paul Haig and buy CDs at his website here, and also at LTM publishing.

Bus Stop Faces

Some of the weird and wonderful characters that hang around bus stops in St Helens - that'll put you off coming here, eh?

This was a quick sketch done while walking to the bus stop - see there's a theme going on here, it's not all just thrown together you know - anyways I was drawn to his outsize curly shoes and rather large nose, his baseball cap was keeping the rain off it.

IF - Brave

I sometimes times like to bounce ideas off my 6 year old daughter for IF, this week I was thinking of Brave Little Bunny, I came up with the above and Edie came up with this below - I swear she's never seen an Al Pacino film - I don't know where she comes up with this stuff.

Do you want a peice of me?

Blue Boy

This is in tribute to my youngest daughter, who told my eldest to "wake up and smell the tea", when she'd remembered half way to school that she'd forgot to put her glasses on, I think it was partly aimed at me too - I hadn't noticed.

IF - Perspective

It's all a matter of perspective.

Background photo from North Berwick, Scotland one of my favourite places in the world.

Winter Olympic Dog - Ice Hockey

The Ice Hockey Chump - I always liked the film Slap Shot as youngster, as well as Rollerball (the orginal with James Caan) - I even had the theme tune at our wedding - it's a wonder my wife didn't take me out with a studded glove, I bet she's felt like it since. I hasten to add the theme tune was Bach's Toccata in D Minor - my dad bought the record for me after I'd seen the film, I must have been about 14 at the time - always one to further my musical education my dad, still is.

Winter Olympic Dog - The Luge

To quote Jerry Seinfeld - "Oh he pointed his toes… oh, this guy is a tremendous athlete. The luge is the only sport I’ve ever seen that you could have people competing in it against their will, and it would be exactly the same"
